A color negative film from Orwo's relaunched Wolfen line, made in Germany. NC400 has a distinctive cool blue-cyan cast and muted saturation that gives images a moody, desaturated look. It's grainy for a 400 speed stock and tends to shift heavily toward blue-green tones, especially in shadows. Underexposure makes the color issues worse, so rating it at 200 and overexposing by a stop is recommended. The film's orange mask is different from Kodak and Fuji stocks, which means most lab scanners won't profile it correctly out of the box, often requiring manual color correction during scanning. Works best if you lean into its cold, lo-fi aesthetic or plan to do post-processing. Not a great choice if you're after accurate or vibrant colors.
