Maitani Yoshihisa developed it from his XA. The body is small and curved, with the lens cover built into it, and sliding the cover aside switches the camera on.
The 35mm f/3.5 lens has three elements in three groups. It focuses by active multi-beam autofocus in 100 steps, with a focus lock.
Exposure is automatic, with shutter speeds from 1/15 to 1/500. The flash has auto, red-eye reduction, fill-in and off modes.
It runs on one 3V CR123A lithium cell and weighs 170g without it, at 117 by 63 by 37mm.
Olympus says it was shaped to fit one hand and that over 5 million were made.
