Kodak's Vision3 500T with its remjet backing removed so an ordinary C-41 lab can run it, rated a stop faster.
It starts as a motion picture negative. Kodak coats the back of Vision3 with remjet, a carbon layer that stops light bouncing off the film base and back into the emulsion. CineStill strips it off, which is what makes the film safe for standard lab chemistry.
That removal is also where the look comes from. Light now reflects off the base and re-exposes the film from behind, and because the rear layer is the red-sensitive one, bright points pick up a red halo. Street lights and neon do it hardest.
It is corrected for artificial light at around 3200K and goes strongly blue in daylight without an 85 filter. So it is a night film. After dark it does something nothing else in normal circulation does, and at noon it is a dearer, worse Portra.
