Tonality is soft and forgiving rather than punchy. Grain is clearly visible and reads as texture rather than noise.
Ilford rates it for exposure up to EI 3200 with extended development, and that is most of why people reach for it. It holds detail in a pushed negative better than its speed suggests.
It is the wrong choice when you want fine grain, and a poor one when you want contrast straight off the negative.
